Remodeling Your Bathroom to Increase the Value of Your Home

A residential bathroom that is used heavily usually requires some upgrading or remodeling every so often. After only a few years, fixtures, flooring and other bathroom equipment start to break and look worn or outdated. If you are thinking of selling your house, and one or more of the bathrooms in it have not been renovated within the last decade or two, now is time to have some work done.

Most older bathrooms have inadequate lighting and poor airflow. If your older bathroom lacks bright lighting or a fan that is strong enough to remove the moist air that results from taking a shower or bath, it could be harboring mold. Mold is hazardous to the health, and dark, humid conditions aid its growth. The tiles and drywall near your shower or bathtub area are prime areas for active mold colonies. Renovating your bathroom to include additional lighting and ventilation can significantly reduce the risk of developing a problem with mold.

Buyers who suspect mold problems or see other odd problems such as a vanity cabinet that is blocked when the bathroom door is opened or a toilet or bathtub that is well past its prime tend not to make offers. Remodeling your bathroom increases your home’s value and the likelihood that you will sell it quickly.
